COMMS 496 Portfolio


Promotional Posters
I wrote and designed five 3x5 feet posters. These posters outline the four major initiatives of Rising Star Outreach. The posters are used at conventions, fairs and other promotional activities to attract attention and provide and overview of the nonprofit's mission and goals.

Donation & Sponsorship Cards
Included below is the front and back of a 4x6 inch sponsorship and donation card. I wrote and designed 156 of these cards, one for each of the children attending the Rising Star Outreach school. The cards were given to companies who sponsored Rising Star Outreach. Near Christmas, the cards were displayed in a public place where employees could come and choose a child to donate to or sponsor.

East Coast Barbecue
I assisted in planning and executing this fundraiser event. I also designed the logo pictured below, which was used on t-shirts and other promotional materials. The fundraiser was attended by over 500 college students and raised over $10,000. I also helped create and manage a Facebook event page for the fundraiser.  https://www.facebook.com/events/357581954322710/

"Be The Change" Benefit Dinner
I helped plan and execute this event. I also helped design invitations and other promotional images for the event, including the webpage icon pictured below. The benefit dinner was held in the Energy Solutions Arena. It was hosted by Randy Rigby, president of the Utah Jazz. Despite inclement weather, the dinner had over 200 attendees. While the intent of the event was simply to express appreciation for the charitable donations of several individuals, families and companies, the event also raised over $5,000.

Christmas Card for Volunteers & Donors
I created this simple Christmas card to thank those who donated or volunteered their time to Rising Star Outreach in 2012. The back of the card contained a small thank you message and was hand-signed by the president, the founder and the chief operating officer. Over 500 of these cards were distributed.

Information Booklet/Powerpoint Presentation
I wrote and designed a 14-page, print information booklet. Similar to a media kit, this booklet provided an overview of Rising Star Outreach, including information on its mission, board of directors, partnering companies, etc. This information booklet was used when presenting to new potential corporate sponsors. An abbreviated version of the booklet was used as a PowerPoint presentation given to these corporations. The information booklet was then given to the company to keep and refer to.

"Be the Change" Blog Name, Header and Layout. 
I came up with "Be the Change" as the title for the official blog of Rising Star Outreach. I also created the blog header and assisted in designing the blog's layout. The blog can be viewed online at http://rsoutreach.blogspot.com/

Research on Industry Influentials
I was part of a four-person team charged with researching influentials in the organic food industry. Using Cision and other basic research methods we created a report of over 50 influentials which met the criteria given to us by our client.

Strategic Communication Campaign
Headed a four-person team in the creation of a proposal for a 6-month strategic communications campaign for the Green PolkaDot Box. This eighty-page proposal contained the following:
  • An executive summary
  • Key findings from primary and secondary research
  • Quantifiable goals and objectives
  • Recommendations for key publics to target
  • Messages, strategies and tactics specific to each of the recommended key publics
  • Proposed calendar and budget

Survey 
Using Qualtrics I helped create, administer, and evaluate a survey that was completed by over 300 participants. This survey helped our client understand the public's perception of its brand and industry as well as why its customers were not ordering from its website more frequently.

"This Mutual Nondisclosure Agreement (“Agreement”) is made and entered into as of January 7, 2013 between Domo, Inc., a Utah corporation (“Domo”), and Christian Corry Jones. Domo values its confidential information very highly, and will only disclose it subject to this Agreement. Potential Customer agrees to receive confidential Domo information regarding Domo’s products, services and other matters according to these terms."

As this excerpt from my NDA explains, I am unable to show or explain in detail the work I have conducted while at Domo. I will, however, give a short accounting of the tasks and projects I have participated in:
  • Researching leads from various cities for Domo’s Summer Marketing Tour.
  • Job shadowing the field-marketing manager.
  • Preparing infographic mockups for marketing team.
  • Planning and writing marketing emails designed for specific audience segments.
  • Inserting Omniture tracking codes into the HTML code of various emails.
  • Work with the nurture channel manager to design and build automated, email-marketing programs.
  • Writing short summaries for over 300 internal documents.
  • Preparing lead summaries for upcoming events and tradeshows.
  • Completing social media “bootcamp” assignment given to all new employees from CEO.
  • Interviewing digital media company employees to gather information for research report.
  • Creating a survey using Qualtrics to be distributed to professionals in the media industry.
  • Using SalesForce technology to remove duplicate leads from the lead database.
  • Researching trade publications, professional associations and events in the media industry.
